Unorthodox Change in the Angulation of an Impacted Mandibular Third Molar: A rare Case Report
Authors
Abstract:
Background: Third molars are the most frequently impacted teeth, and extensive research has been carried out delineating their impaction prevalence, classification, and treatment approaches. We present a rare case of an impacted mandibular third molar which went through unprecedented changes in angulation over an eight-year time span with no particular pathologic, traumatic, or therapeutic interference. Case presentation: A 22-year-old female presented with an asymptomatic mesioangular impacted lower right third molar. Upon the patient’s next visit (eight years later), the newly obtained panoramic radiograph showed that the tooth’s crown has angulated towards the roots of the adjacent tooth, rendering the impaction to be horizontal rather than mesioangular. Given the changing position and angulation, it was decided to surgically extract the tooth. Conclusion: Early extraction of impacted teeth in patients that are candidates for such treatment in terms of age and medical conditions is recommended since changes in the angulation of impacted teeth could make the procedure more difficult.

Introdouction: The aim of this study was to determine the associations between commonly found pathologic conditions and angulation of the lower third molar teeth. Materials and methods: In this retrospective study, 370 panoramic radiographs consisting of 724 lower third molars were evaluated for any pathologies according to their angulation(mesioangular, distoangular, vertical, or horizontal...
full textAutotransplantation of a mandibular third molar: A case report
Tooth autotransplantation defines as transition of one tooth from one position to another, in same individual. It is a biological procedure in which teeth have the potential to induce alveolar bone growth. It can be applied in patients before adolescence growth is finished. It significantly reduces time and cost compared to implants. Healing rapidly occurs and function is regained almost immedi...
full textSevere Rotational Drift of an Impacted Mandibular Third Molar: A Case Report
Third molar eruption is an unpredictable event. Occasionally, mandibular third molars undergo angular changes in young adults. This rotational drift is of unknown etiology, is not predictable and may facilitate the eruption or may make the im-paction worse. A rare case is presented with severe rotational drift of a mesioangularly impacted mandibular third molar.
full textBenign Cementoblastoma Associated with an Impacted Mandibular Third Molar – Report of an Unusual Case
Cementoblastoma is characterized by the formation of cementum-like tissue in direct connection with the root of a tooth. It is a rare lesion constituting less than 1% of all odontogenic tumors. We report a unique case of a large cementoblastoma attached to the lateral root surface of an impacted permanent mandibular third molar in a 33 year old male patient. The association of cementoblastomas ...

Accidental displacement of an impacted lower third molar into the pterygomandibular space during extraction is a rare complication. The purpose of this article is to report the case of a lower third molar displaced into the pterygomandibular space during an unsuccessful surgical intervention. A 26-year-old male patient presented with infection and trismus was referred to our clinic. The patient...
